I'm Determined Mini-Summit

  • I'm DeterminedThe I’m Determined program provides students, parents and educators with tools and strategies to teach youth with disabilities the skills to have a voice and make decisions about their lives. The program has been successful with youth of all ages. The I’m Determined program also assists parents with supporting their child in gaining these abilities.

The mini-summit is a conference-style event in which parents and students attend breakout sessions. Parents will have a choice of session topics to select from based on their own interests and needs. There will also be a vendor fair to provide parents with the opportunity to speak with community agencies and services that can be a support to their child and family. Student sessions offer a fun, interactive environment to engage youth in learning the foundational skills to be involved in the IEP process.

The I'm Determined Youth & Parent Mini-Summit is a collaborative effort of the Frederick County Public Schools Special Instructional Services Department and the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).

This year's Mini-Summit is Saturday, October 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Robert E. Aylor Middle School. The focus of the 2023 I’m Determined Mini-Summit is Student Involvement in the IEP Process and the Three Fundamental Needs of Self-Determination: Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (C.A.R.).
