Design Process Meeting - April 23, 2025

Frederick County Public Schools held its second design process meeting for the fourth high school on April 23. This meeting built upon the feedback shared at the initial meeting and aimed at getting further input from the community to drive the design of the new high school.
Participants included parents, community members, administrators, School Board members and students. The session began with a review of the highlights from the first meeting and acknowledgement of the most supported themes identified by each of the breakout teams. 

Preliminary concepts were introduced regarding functional zoning, arrival and entry experience, school operation, and overall efficiency. Design concepts were presented to the participants in multiple forms, including a site layout, rough floor plan, as well as a three-dimensional rendering of the campus.

Each team was then asked to discuss the concepts within their group before coming back together as a larger group. Participants used stickers to identify the ideas that resonated most strongly. While all schemes offered at least one idea that appealed to the entire group, one of the schemes (Hub and Spoke) captured the most support. 

Dr. Hummer thanked participants for their hard work and collaboration to ensure the new school incorporates the best ideas and reflects the values and vision of Frederick County Public Schools. He assured participants that there would be opportunities to review and comment on the progress of the design in the coming months.
