Special Education Advisory Committee
Purpose
The SEAC is organized and functions in accordance with state and federal requirements. The Committee's functions include the following:
- advise Frederick County School Board, through the director of special services and the superintendent of schools, of unmet needs in the education of children with disabilities;
- assist the school board in the formulation and development of long-range plans for the education of children with disabilities;
- participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities;
- submit periodic reports and recommendations concerning the education of children with disabilities through the director of special services and the superintendent of schools to the school board;
- assist the director of special services in interpreting to the community plans for meeting for special needs of children with disabilities for educational services;
- and to review annually the Fredrick County updated annual special education plan and the application for federal funding thirty (30) calendar days prior to submission to the school board.
Public Comment
SEAC meetings are open to the public and guests are able to submit public comments in writing to be shared at the meeting. The form is available below in both English and Spanish.
Membership
The SEAC is composed of Frederick County residents, approved by members of the School Board and the Superintendent of Schools. Members serve without compensation. A majority of the committee shall be parents of children with disabilities or individuals with disabilities. Upcoming SEAC Meetings
Meetings are from 6-7 p.m. in the Media Center Conference Room, Room 19, at the FCPS Administration Building. All meetings are open to the public. The SEAC welcomes anyone interested in special education. There is designated time for public comment during the meeting. Submit comments using the Public Comment Form.
