FCPS 101 Academy

FCPS 101 Academy is a free program offered by Frederick County Public Schools during the 2024-25 school year. The program is designed to provide FCPS families and community members with an opportunity to learn more about the school division and its operations, including instructional and administrative services. Topics will include: Instruction, the Role of the School Board, Facilities Planning and Development, Staffing, School Accountability/SOLs, Budgeting, Transportation, Student/Family Support Services, Safety and Security, School Nutritional Services and Instructional Technology, and more.  

Format

From October through April, participants will meet monthly to learn about specific topics and engage in activities/tours designed to broaden understanding and provide insight into the challenges and opportunities that exist in Frederick County Public Schools. Sessions will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. according to the following schedule:

  • October 10, 2024 - Overview of FCPS, Instruction and CTE
  • November 13, 2024 - Finance and Transportation
  • December 4, 2024 - Planning and Development and Facilities Services
  • January 8, 2025 - Work of the School Board and Student Support Services
  • February 5, 2025 - HR and Recruitment, IT, Safety and Security and SROs
  • March 4, 2025- School Nutrition, Strategic Partnerships and Health Services
  • April 2, 2025 - Graduation Banquet, Superintendent Look Ahead, and Reflections/Discussion

Participants

Approximately 25 participants will be selected to participate in the program, with preference given to the families of students attending Frederick County Public Schools. 

Attendance

Participants are expected to attend each monthly session in its entirety. 

Graduates and FCPS 101 Alumni

At the program's conclusion, participants will receive a certificate of completion and be equipped to serve as ambassadors for FCPS. FCPS 101 Academy graduates will better understand the school division as well as its challenges and opportunities. FCPS 101 Academy alumni receive periodic updates from the superintendent regarding key initiatives and may participate in FCPS 101 alumni meetings where they can continue learning about FCPS and offer their perspectives to school leaders.

Application Process

Applications to participate in the FCPS 101 Academy must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. To apply, please complete the FCPS 101 Academy application form
