Notice of Vacancy for Gainesboro District Seat

The Frederick County School Board announces a vacancy on its Board.  The vacancy is for the Gainesboro District position and is effective March 20, 2025.

Frederick County citizens who are interested in applying for appointment by the School Board as an interim School Board member may do so by submitting or delivering a letter of interest with a resume on or before 5 p.m. on April 11, 2025.  All resumes and letters of interests will be considered public and made available to the public for review pursuant to Virginia Code § 24.2-228(A).

The names of applicants will be announced prior to a public meeting held on or before April 22, 2025, to take place at the Frederick County School Board Offices, 1415 Amherst Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601, or at such other location advertised by the School Board.  At that public meeting, the School Board will receive comments from citizens within Frederick County relative to the qualifications of the applicants being considered to fill the interim board member position.

Applicants must meet the requirements of the Code of Virginia for School Board membership including that, at the time of their appointment, the applicant must be a qualified voter and bona fide resident of Frederick County in the Gainesboro District.  If a school board member ceases to meet these residency requirements, they shall be deemed to have vacated their position on the School Board.  A School Board member cannot be an employee of the School Board of which they are a member and cannot hold an incompatible dual office.

The Frederick County School Board will conduct applicant interviews between April 14, 2025 and April 22, 2025.  The interviews will take place at the Frederick County School Board Offices, 1415 Amherst Street, in Winchester.  

The Frederick County School Board may announce the individual appointed to fill the interim board member positions on April 29, 2025, but no later than May 4, 2025.

The Frederick County School Board reserves the right to adjust this schedule to accommodate unforeseen delays in the process.
