535P - Resignations, Dismissal, and Non-renewal

    1. Resignation of Staff in Positions Requiring a License During Contract Year
      Employees in positions requiring a license who wish to terminate their contract before the end of the session shall request release in writing stating the reason. Employees shall request release from contract at least two weeks in advance of their intended date of resignation. Employees in positions requiring a license are under contract with the school board and may be released only by action of the board.

      In the event that the board declines to grant the request for release on the grounds of insufficient or unjustifiable cause, and the employee breaches such contact, the board may request that the license of said employee be revoked under rules and regulations prescribed by the Board of Education.

    2. Resignation of Staff in Positions Requiring a License at End of Contract Year
      Any employee who does not intend to continue his employment for the following year should submit written notice to that effect not later than June 15.

    3. Termination and Non-renewal of Contract and Assignment
      Contracts and assignments may be non-renewed or terminated in accordance with all laws, rules, and regulations. Hearings related to recommendations for dismissal of licensed staff shall be conducted by a hearing officer named by the Board pursuant to 22.1-309.
