558R - Civil Leave

    1. Civil leave may be granted to full‑time and permanent part‑time employees when called to serve on a jury, attend court as a witness under subpoena, or to act as an officer of election. (Refer to Policy 502P for definitions of full-time and permanent part-time employees.)

    2. If civil leave is elected, the leave will be documented through the automated absence system. Full‑time and permanent part‑time employees shall receive their daily rate of pay commensurate with their current assignment and will not be required to reimburse the school division for attendance compensation which has been paid by the court system.

    3. Civil leave may not be granted if the employee is involved in a personal case, either as a plaintiff or as a defendant. The time may be charged to personal leave, annual leave, or leave without pay.

    4. Employees shall be required to provide documentation supporting the need for civil leave under this regulation.
