FCPS Announces New Administrators

At the School Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 19, Frederick County Public Schools announced the appointment of three administrators. Read below to learn more about each administrator.

Principal of Sherando High School
Logan Sheppard moves into the role of Principal of Sherando High School. Sheppard is returning to Sherando High School, where he initially served as Assistant Principal from 2015-2022. Since 2022, he has served in a variety of administrative roles within the division, including Assistant Director of Student Support Services, Director of Transportation and most recently, Director of Planning and Construction. He began his teaching career at Stonewall Elementary. He has also taught at Millbrook High School as well as for Loudoun County Public Schools before he returned to FCPS in 2015. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, a Master's Degree in Teaching from James Madison University and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from George Mason University.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Dr. Michael Mele joins Frederick County Public Schools as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mele comes to FCPS with 19 years of educational leadership experience. Currently serving as Curriculum Director for Tuscarora School District in Pennsylvania, he has also held the role of Senior High School Principal in Northern Bedford County School District and Teacher and Program Coordinator at Tuscarora School District. Mele holds a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature, a Master of Science in Education Leadership from Arkansas State University and a Doctor of Education in Leadership in Schooling from the University of Massachusetts. 

Supervisor of Facilities Services
Franklin Harris assumes the role of Supervisor of Facilities Services. Harris is a James Wood High School graduate and has served as a maintenance technician with FCPS for almost two years. He also has 29 years of prior experience in the field, including 6 years as a special projects field supervisor for Riddleberger Brothers, Inc., 11 years of experience as a service technician for Trenary Service Company, and 12 years as an HVAC installation foreman at Miller and Anderson Inc.
