Legislative Priorities
The Frederick County School Board convened a work session on September 4 to identify key legislative priorities that will be presented to local delegates at the upcoming legislative summit. The School Board’s goal is to collaborate with state representatives to address critical issues impacting student needs.
Superintendent Dr. George Hummer initiated the discussion, outlining the rationale for the proposed legislative priorities. He emphasized the importance of working closely with local delegates and senators to advocate for changes at the state level that will better serve FCPS students.
The following legislative priorities were discussed and supported by the School Board:
- Reconfigure the Cost of Competing Adjustment (COCA)
- Eliminate Support Positions Caps
- Increase Postsecondary Student Opportunities
- Improve Statutory Requirements
- Support for Building and Maintaining School Facilities
- Funding for School Resource Officers (SROs)
FCPS will host a Legislative Summit at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, to discuss these priorities with Frederick County’s representatives in the General Assembly, including Delegate Delores Oates, Delegate Bill Wiley, and Senator Timmy French.
