  • Job Requirements

    Anyone wishing to apply to enter the FCPS School Bus Driver Training Program must:

    • Be at least 21 years old
    • Have a good driving record
    • Pass a pre-hire drug screening
    • Pass a criminal background and child abuse check
    • Successfully complete a school bus driver’s physical exam which meets Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Education requirements
    • Have employment references

  • Salary and Benefits

    • Bus drivers in training are paid $12.00/hour
    • Call-in substitute drivers earn $74.70/day
    • Contracted drivers earn $74.70-$142.11/day based on experience. An attendance bonus is also available.
    • Benefits for contracted drivers include sick leave, personal leave, health insurance (including dental and vision), retirement benefits through the Virginia Retirement System and group life insurance.
    • Drivers or aides may bring two of their children or grandchildren (up to age 5) to ride on the bus they drive. This helps eliminate the need for drivers to secure childcare in order to work.
