The mission of FCPS School Counseling program is to work collaboratively with school personnel and community agencies to meet the diverse needs of our students and their families so that our students will experience academic, social, and personal success.
Support all students in reaching their full academic potential as independent learners.
Support all students with career exploration and counseling to promote informed career decision making.
Support all students in developing self-awareness and social skills in order to reach their highest personal potential.
The Standards for School Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools are organized by grade level under the following goals:
- Academic Development - Students will acquire the academic preparation essential to choose from a variety of educational, training, and employment options upon completion of secondary school.
- Career Development - Students will investigate the world of work in order to make informed career decisions.
- Personal/Social Development - Students will acquire an understanding of, and respect for, self and others, and the skills to be responsible citizens.
Each school’s comprehensive counseling program includes a mission and vision statement that aligns with the school division’s mission and vision and the American School Counselors’ Association Framework for School counselors.
Each program is implemented by professionally trained, Master’s level (at a minimum) licensed school counselors.
