  • 2021 Support Staff AwardsFCPS Presents Support Staff Awards

    Over the past several weeks, Frederick County Public Schools Superintendent David Sovine has recognized five outstanding employees with Support Staff Awards. The award winners represent 13 different areas and would have normally been recognized at the school division’s support staff convocation which was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year marks the 23rd year the awards have been presented to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the school division’s support staff.

    Frederick County Public Schools is one of 11 school divisions from across Virginia to receive a state grant to develop or implement innovative programs that support the Virginia Board of Education’s Profile of a Graduate and Virginia’s 5 C’s- critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication and citizenship.

  • FCPS On-Time Graduation Rate Exceeds the Average State Rate


    Frederick County Public Schools’ on-time graduation rate for the Class of 2021 was 93.6 percent compared to Virginia’s rate of 93 percent. In addition to exceeding the state’s on-time graduation rate, the school division’s 4.1 percent dropout rate for the Class of 2021 was lower than the state’s rate of 4.3 percent.

  • Susan SaylorSHS Teacher Honored

    The Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society has named Sherando High School Science Teacher Susan Saylor the recipient of this year's Franklin D. Kizer Distinguished High School Chemistry Teacher Award. The award has been presented every year since 1948. It is named in honor of Franklin Kizer, an outstanding science educator and dedicated member of the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society.

  • Melissa BarbFCPS Names Melissa Barb its 2022 Teacher of the Year

    Please join us in congratulating Middletown Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher Melissa Barb who has been named the 2022 Frederick County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. The other finalists were Evendale Elementary School Special Education Teacher Beth Sager and Jordan Springs Elementary School English Language Learner Teacher Jackie Zacarias.

  • Association of School Business Officials InternationalMeritorious Budget Award

    For the ninth consecutive year, the Association of School Business Officials International has recognized Frederick County Public Schools with a Meritorious Budget Award.

  • Virginia Department of Education2020-21 SOL Results Released

    The Virginia Department of Education has released SOL test results from 2020-21 and updated School Quality Profiles. Because school accreditation was waived for 2021-22 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SOL test data will serve as a tool to set a baseline for recovery and measure student learning growth this year.

  • Record Opening Day Attendance

    Frederick County Public Schools welcomed a record 13,468 students for the opening of the 2021-22 school year on August 23.

    FCPS will be offering free school meals throughout the 2021-22 school year.
