    The School Board has finalized the Superintendent Leadership Profile it will use to help identify the best candidate to serve as the school division’s next Superintendent.  The Board expects to have the new Superintendent assume the job in the Spring of 2023.

    The 2022-23 School Calendar has been amended to add three days to Spring Break which will begin on Friday, April 7 and continue through Sunday, April 16

  • Association of School Business Officials InternationalMeritorious Budget Award

    For the 10th consecutive year, the Association of School Business Officials International has recognized Frederick County Public Schools with a Meritorious Budget Award.

  • FCPS On-Time Graduation Rate Exceeds the Average State Rate for the 10th Consecutive Year

    For the 10th consecutive year, Frederick County Public Schools’ on-time graduation rate exceeds the state’s average on-time graduation rate. According to the Virginia Department of Education, the on-time graduate rate for members of Frederick County Public Schools’ Class of 2022 was 94.6 percent compared to Virginia’s on-time graduation rate of 92.1 percent. It is also the fourth consecutive year the school division’s on-time graduation rate has climbed. 

  • Ben ThompsonNew Principal Named for Dowell J. Howard Center

    Ben Thompson has been named the new principal at the Dowell J. Howard Center.  He succeeds Jan Ball-Brooks who recently accepted a position in Danville after serving as the principal at the Dowell J. Howard Center since July 2009. 

  • AccreditationAll Frederick County Public Schools Accredited for 2022-23

    The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has announced each of Frederick County’s public schools has been accredited for 2022-23.  This year marks the first time in three years the VDOE has released school accreditation ratings.  As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its unprecedented impact on school operations, school accreditation was waived for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.

    Frederick County Public Schools has been awarded $10,793,768.89 in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief lll (ESSER lll) funding.

  • 2022 Support Staff AwardsFCPS Presents Support Staff Awards

    Over the past week, Frederick County Public Schools Interim Superintendent John Lamanna has recognized five outstanding employees with Support Staff Awards. This year marks the 24th year the awards have been presented to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the school division’s support staff.

  • Madison Baker2023 Teacher of the Year

    Please join us in congratulating Redbud Run Elementary School English Language Learner Teacher Madison Baker who has been named the 2023 Frederick County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.  The other finalists were Evendale Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Sara Landis and Sherando High School French Teacher Crystal Marshall. 

  • Free and Reduced Price Meals

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture waivers that allowed all FCPS students to receive free school meals the past two years have expired. This means school breakfast and lunch will not be available to all students at no cost during the 2022-23 school year. However, eligible families can participate in the free and reduced priced meals program.

    The results from the 2022 Frederick County Public Schools School Quality and Perceptions Survey reveal a majority of students, parents and school-based staff rate the overall quality of their school as good or excellent.
